Keep these items off the moving truck

Use this checklist while sorting, but request the mover’s written prohibited-items list because policies can differ. • Flammable or combustible products: gasoline, lighter fluid, propane cylinders, kerosene, fuel-powered equipment that has not been properly drained, and some paints or solvents. • Corrosive, toxic, or reactive materials: bleach, pool chemicals, pesticides, acids, certain cleaners, fertilizer, and other products displaying hazard warnings. • Pressurized or explosive items: fireworks, ammunition, and aerosol or compressed-gas containers when prohibited by the mover. • Heat-sensitive medicine and medical supplies: prescriptions, insulin, injectable medicine, test strips, and any product with temperature-control instructions. • Sensitive electronics and media: laptops, phones, cameras, batteries, external drives, and other devices their manufacturers say must remain within a specified temperature range. • Perishable goods: refrigerated or frozen food, opened food, and anything likely to spoil, leak, attract pests, or create odors. • Plants and living things: houseplants may be harmed by heat and lack of ventilation. Transport pets personally using a safe plan; never place them in a moving truck. • Essential records and valuables: identification, passports, financial and legal records, keys, payment cards, jewelry, cash, sentimental objects, and irreplaceable photographs.

Pack a personal essentials kit

Separate these belongings before loading begins so they are not boxed accidentally. Use a clearly marked bag or container that remains with you. Include daily medicine in its original labeled packaging, medical instructions, identification, keys, chargers, a change of clothing, basic toiletries, water, and records needed during pickup or delivery. Follow the medicine manufacturer’s or pharmacist’s storage directions; an ordinary cooler is not automatically appropriate for every medication. Back up important digital files before transit. Turn electronics off, protect them from moisture and impact, and follow manufacturer guidance rather than leaving them in a parked vehicle or hot cargo area.

Decide what to use, donate, or dispose of

Do not hide a questionable product in a box or discard it in household trash without checking applicable instructions. Read the label and contact the appropriate local waste authority or facility for disposal guidance. Never mix chemicals or pour unknown materials together. Use suitable food before moving, donate unopened goods where accepted, and discard spoiled items. For plants, consider a climate-conscious personal transport plan or rehoming them before the move. Empty fuel from equipment only as directed by its manufacturer and the mover; ask whether batteries, propane tanks, or other components must also be removed.

Request the mover’s prohibited-items list

Ask for the list in writing before packing starts, then compare it with every garage, shed, kitchen, bathroom, and utility-area item. Specifically ask about batteries, aerosols, paint, cleaning products, alcohol, plants, food, fuel-powered equipment, firearms, ammunition, and temperature-sensitive goods. Also ask how undeclared prohibited items affect service, liability, or claims. If packing help is part of your scope, identify questionable belongings during the review rather than waiting until loading. Tampa Pro Movers can review your inventory and requested help for a tailored quote; acceptance and handling requirements should be confirmed for the specific move.
